Description
Calling all curious explorers! Join us for a hands-on outdoor learning adventure as we discover the incredible world of pollinators specifically butterflies during this month’s Naturalist Nook: Wings of Wonder!
Children will learn all about the important role pollinators play in our ecosystems while exploring the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly and how butterflies, bees, and other pollinators help plants and flowers thrive. Through guided discussion and interactive learning, young naturalists will build a deeper appreciation for biodiversity and the natural world around them.
We’ll head out on a guided butterfly walk using identification guides to search for butterflies, bees, caterpillars, flowers, and other signs of pollinator activity along the trail. Participants will practice observation skills, make scientific discoveries, and learn how to identify common pollinators in the field.
As part of this immersive STEAM experience, children will also create entries in their own Nature Journal by sketching butterflies and other pollinators, recording observations, noting colors and behaviors, and reflecting on what they discover in nature. Nature journaling encourages creativity, mindfulness, scientific thinking, and outdoor connection while helping children strengthen observation and writing skills.
To wrap up the adventure, participants will decorate and personalize their very own take-home butterfly craft to celebrate everything they learned during the program.
This program incorporates STEAM learning principles through:
