During this hands-on exploration, young naturalists will investigate the different habitats found within and along a stream—from shallow riffles and rocky streambeds to deeper pools and the surrounding creek bank.

We’ll search beneath rocks and along the stream bottom for aquatic macroinvertebrates like mayfly nymphs, caddisflies, crayfish, and other tiny creatures that call the creek home. We’ll learn how these organisms are adapted to life in moving water and what they can tell us about the health of a stream.

Along the way, we’ll keep our eyes and ears open for fish, salamanders, frogs, birds, and other wildlife that depend on this important habitat.
